A NEW networking group targeting under-40s is out to prove online “Facetime” is Ellson no substitute for face-to-face time.

The Camberwell Entrepreneurs Network in Melbourne’s eastern suburbs will launch tomorrow night, with the aim of meeting regularly, to get more young professionals swapping business cards and ideas in person, rather than behind a screen.

Camberwell Network founder and director Sue Ellson is co-ordinating the first event but would like to see a small team of young people eventually take over.

“I am constantly receiving inquiries from younger people in the local are who whould like to network, but they often find that the existing local networks have a majority of members over the age of 40 and they don’t feel comfortable in that environment.” Ms Ellson said.

Joe Stephan from Stephan Strategic, a financial advisory firm in Kew, said: “The ability to connect with like-minded community professionals allows us to explore shared experiences, create community initiaatives and most importantly fosters a culture of giving which is sometimes lost.”

Hilda Wang and Peter Liu, franchise owners of PostNet in Hawthorn, said a network for people under 40 would give them an an opportunity to share experience and knowledge in various business sectors and be inspired by new ideas and insights.

Adrian Willenberg, senior mortgage broker at Broker Intelligence in Glen Iris regularly attends networking events in the Camberwell area dominated by over-40s.

“A networking group for under-40s is important because networking is the single most powerful marketing tactic to accelerate and sustain success for any individual or small business,” Mr Willenberg said.

Ms Ellson said she would like to see the entrepreneurs’ network take off and eventually establish another group for under 25s

The Camberwell Entrepreneurs Network for under-40s will be launched on February 26 at 6pm at ZouZ Cafe, 1420 Toorak Rd, Camberwell. Website:
